Stanley Park

Here are some pictures from Stanley Park. (Thanks for suggesting I go there Nate!)

There was a really neat path that went all around the park.  It had a lane for people on wheels and one for people walking.  I saw people riding bikes, on roller skates, on skateboards, and even roller skis!

Roller skis!
Wheels on the left, feet on the right :)
The totem poles were really fascinating.  They told the story of a family or of a legend.  They were really tall too!

There was one where the father in the family was carved as a strong bear at the bottom of the pole.  The grandmother was an eagle watching over from the top.  If you were making one for your family what animals would you use to represent the people in your family?

Fraser Shore Park - Floating logs and geo-caching

This river (Fraser River) is still used as a way to get logs transported.  They are floated down the river instead of being taken on logging trucks.  In the olden days someone used to travel down the river on the logs to make sure they went to the right place. Check out this little video about it.
This is another picture of the logs floating past the train station.

We had some fun along the river geo-caching.  We even found one that was glued to a rock!

This is my niece Sabine.

Flying to Vancouver

Guess who kept me company on the first flight from Hokitika to Christchurch!

So, as I say in the video (if it worked) I left Auckland at 8pm on Friday.  After a long flight I was really glad to be in sunny Canada.  Have a look at the photo below of the time I arrived in Vancouver.  (it's in French!)

Travel time

Here is a math problem for you!!

If I fly from NZ to Vancouver at 1pm on Tuesday, and it takes 13 hours to get there, what time will it be in Vancouver when I arrive?

(hint - I will be travelling into a different time zone!)

First Destination...

Wow!  You came up with some great places to visit!  Portia - Swaziland was an interesting choice.  Why did you think I might go there?

My first destination is Vancouver Canada!  So if you guessed Canada you can give yourself 5 house points :)  (no cheating!)
Have a click around the net and see what there is to do in Vancouver.  If you find something that looks good, let me know in the comments below.

2014 - a year of learning

The year 2014 is going to be a year of learning - for everyone!
I am heading out of the classroom on study leave which will be great fun and a great challenge.
One of the great things about my study and the freedom of online learning means I can participate in my University courses from anywhere in the world!

I wonder where I will end up!
